Queen Tenge is a women-led Malawian-owned business that started as a hobby in Mozambique in 2017, began operations in December 2020, and was officially incorporated in Malawi in February 2023

Rooted in the creative industry, the company collaborates with local artisans to design and produce high-quality bags and artefacts that celebrate Malawian culture and heritage. Queen Tenge creates artisanal bags and artifacts that offer visitors lasting memories of Malawi while meeting the needs of those in diaspora and locavores.

By integrating local resources and skills into its operations, Queen Tenge seeks to strengthen its role as a key contributor to Malawi’s creative and manufacturing industries while fostering economic growth and cultural pride. As a member of the Buy Malawi strategy and our affiliation with the Malawi Tourism Board, we aim to put Malawi on the global fashion map by creating unique Malawian products while empowering women and youth through training and skills development. 

In alignment with Malawi Vision 2063, Queen Tenge will develop women and youth in the tailoring and fashion industry through training and skill development, creating a sustainable transition from subsistence to commercial tailoring.

Malawi’s corporate sector heavily relies on imported leather goods—Baŵi aims to disrupt this dependency by producing locally crafted, world-class alternatives.
